Fallowfield Alpacas is owned and run by Mike and Melanie Douglas.
Melanie works full-time with the alpacas and is totally committed to the welfare of alpacas and is really passionate about developing the UK alpaca industry into a viable commercial enterprise based on the production of high quality fibre. She has attained BAS Parts 1 and 2 judging qualification and has recently been appointed Chairman of the North East and Borders Alpaca Group.
Mike is a qualified architect and is Chairman of a large consultancy practice with offices in Newcastle upon Tyne and Leeds. Most of his spare time is spent in supporting and developing the alpaca enterprise and the farm.

Youngest son, Harry, also provides additional support. During his gap year he worked in Austalia for Jeffry and Carol Farman at flowerdale Estate Alpacas, one of the leading stud farms in Australia. As well as forming lasting friendships, this provided great support to our business, as well as an introduction to the Australian alpaca industry with its recent advances in genetic improvements and high quality bloodlines.
Harry's experience 'down under' proved invaluable in the growth of our knowledge base, and helped to grow the strong links between the UK and Australian breeders. You can read Harry's story of his experience at Flowerdale Estate here... Part One... Part Two
Fallowfield Alpacas actively promotes the continuing improvement of quality stock, quality care, and a strong knowledge base for new breeders, and breeders interested in improving their herd quality. Learn more of the courses we are presently offering
