Crag House Bed & Breakfast
Located three miles north of Hexham in England's most tranquil county, Crag House enjoys spectacular views north to the Cheviot Hills and west along Hadrian's Wall.
Run by Melanie Douglas on her alpaca farm, Crag House provides a relaxing stay in luxurious and stylish accommodation. Surrounded by attractive open countryside and our large gardens, wildlife and scenic walks abound. We have a hard tennis court which is available to guests by arrangement, with rackets and balls for hire.
Crag House is ideally located, providing easy access to local attractions. Hadrian's Wall, now a world Heritage site, cuts though one of our fields and a section of wall is visible from the house. Other attractions include the Northumberland National Park, the spectacular Northumberland coastline with its miles of unspoilt beaches and impressive castles, the North Pennines, Hexham and Corbridge, with the cities of Newcastle and Durham within easy travelling distance.
South Facing Terrace at Crag House
The accommodation consists of one large bedroom, with exposed original roof timbers and dormer windows taking advantage of the spectacular views to both north and south. The king-size bed, furnished with a Fallowfield Alpaca duvet, is complimented by painted pine furniture and comfortable chairs. A flat screen TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs is provided, with hairdryer, clock radio and a beverage tray with a selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh milk and biscuits.
The ensuite shower room is fully tiled, with a power shower and luxury towels and toiletries provided.
A breakfast / sitting room is provided for exclusive use of guests with a cozy wood-burning stove and antique furniture. Should the weather permit, breakfast can be taken on the sheltered, south-facing terrace. There is also a seating area overlooking some of the alpaca paddocks where guests can sit and enjoy the views to the west and north and enjoy the huge variety of birds and wildlife, including roe deer and red squirrels which are frequent visitors.
Breakfast will be one of the highlights of a stay at Crag House, with locally sourced, high quality produce and our own free-range eggs.
Melanie is a superb cook and evening meals and packed lunches can be provided by prior arrangement.
Alternatively, there is a wide selection of places to eat locally in the evening, from top award winning hotels to pubs and bistros, and we are happy to advise you regarding what may suit you best.
